Warning metering

Import / export readings are reversed

Symptom: DeyeCloud shows the system exporting when the house is drawing power (or the battery charges from the grid when it shouldn't).

Most likely cause

The current transformer (CT) is directional and has been clipped on the wrong way, or onto the wrong conductor.

Fix

  1. Confirm the CT is on the main incomer (the conductor carrying total import/export), not on a sub-circuit.
  2. Its arrow (or K → L) must point towards the inverter, with the leads landed white on the left, black on the right.
    • SUN-10/12K SG02LP1 (single-phase LV) only: reverse the leads — white on the right, black on the left (arrow still towards the inverter).
  3. If the readings are backwards, rotate the CT 180° on the same cable, swap the white/black leads, or use the meter’s CT direction setting to invert it in software.

Verify

Switch on a known load (kettle, oven). In DeyeCloud the grid figure should read positive (import) while consuming, and only go negative (sell to grid) when PV genuinely exceeds the load.

Sign convention (per the inverter manual)

FigureSign
PV powerAlways positive
Load powerAlways positive
Grid powerPositive = importing (get from grid) · Negative = exporting (sell to grid)
Battery powerPositive = discharging · Negative = charging

Only the grid and battery figures ever go negative. If PV or load shows a negative value, that is a metering/CT fault — not an export.

Still reversed after checking direction and leads? Confirm the CT is on the main incomer, then check the meter’s Modbus address. Enabling “Grid Tie Meter2” silently bumps a meter from 001 to 002, and the inverter then mis-tags that meter’s data with no warning at all — see W04 / meter address collision.

If there’s no meter data at all (rather than reversed data), it’s a comms problem instead — see external meter not communicating and smart meter wiring.
